well.. this post is for a fren with bright pink hair. she asked me to do up this post for her so she can know where to shop in shanghai and if you have bright pink hair... well.. this is the least i can do... lol
in order of ranking:
1. 七浦路
How to get there:
Train to 南京东路 train station, exit and cross road to take bus 66 for one stop to reach.
What's there there:
The largest wholesale center in Shanghai i think. Amazing amount of stuff there. You can find everything there but you need to know how to bargain. Got to try your luck at bargaining but nothing should be worth more than 100RMB less the really high end branded stuff
2. 上海科技馆
How to get there:
Train to 上海科技馆 train station, once you exit the control station, you are there
What's there there:
It's quire easily accessible, though the base price of the stuff here is about 10 to 30% more than 七浦路, it's nearby and good for after work shopping. not shopping spree. It has nearly everything that 七浦路 has to offer, though much lesser in terms of variety
3. 静安诗
How to get there:
Train to 静安诗 train station
There are 2 areas for shopping, one is a boutique area just outside the train station, it has a circular opening
The other, you have to find the BK near City Plaza Shopping Center (if i remembered the name correctly), facing the BK, turn right and walk down to this sheltered shopping area
What's there there:
The boutique area has quite a lot of nice stuff. Branded and non-branded stuff, highly recommended area to shop, there is even one portion of the shopping area for guys stuff.
The sheltered shopping area in my opinion is a nicer place to shop compared to the other places in shanghai as the opening price of the stuff there is much lower and lesser haggling is required. it provides a more pleasant shopping experience.
After shopping, there is a lot of restaurants nearby for eats as well
4. 城皇庙 (富佑路)
How to get there:
Train to 南京东路 train station, exit to take bus 66 from the same side of the road until you reach 城皇庙. once you cross the road, you should be able to see 富佑路
What's there there:
A huge bag wholesale center on the top floor, accessory wholesale on the 2nd floor and tons of gifts all over. great for shopping for souvenirs for friends.
5. 东昌路
How to get there:
Train to 东昌路 train station, look for Times Square and find the MacDonald's inside it. Across the MacDonald's, there is a small shopping complex. That's the place
What's there there:
On the 3rd floor is, in my opinion, the most amazing place to find DVDs and CDs. Software, English TV Series, Korean / Japanese / Hong Kong / Chinese Drama Serials, Anime, Cartoons, Music, Movies, you name it, they have it all
On top of that, they have a lot of high end branded 水货 (better den A货) there at reasonable prices (after much haggling)
6. 南京东路 (步行街)
How to get there:
Train to 南京东路 or 人民广场 train station. You can't miss it
What's there there:
The Orchard Road of Shanghai.
7. 复旦大学 (步行街)
How to get there:
From 复旦大学, across the 毛泽东 (Maozedong) statue (yes, cross the road), there is a small road, walk down the small road and about 500m away is the 步行街.
What's there there:
Has a lot of 小吃 along the way, including cheap and good sushi. A few food outlets for a nice dinner. The actual 步行街 itself has a small bit of shopping. but hey... its a good break from school
8. 复旦大学 (小笼包)
How to get there:
From 复旦大学, walk towards the canteen furthest away from the dorms/hostels. the canteen should be just beside the exit, if not, you are at the wrong canteen. Walk out the exit and turn left and walk down, once across a short longkang bridge, turn left into the carpark and there is the shop
What's there there:
Why i put this under this page because it has the BEST 小笼包 in shanghai. at 3.5RMB for 6 小笼包, it is damn cheap and DAMN good. oh ya, across the shop has some small shops selling some stuff also, that makes it possible to put in under the shopping recommendations... lol
9. 世纪大道
How to get there:
Train to 世纪大道 train station. walk about 500m to reach the area
What's there there:
Has 太平洋第三期 which is a good place for electronics, in pudong and near where i stayed. has other shopping complexes nearby to
10. 中山公园
How to get there:
Train to 中山公园 train station.
What's there there:
A HUGE shopping complex with different colour code for different areas. Amazing. and has a H&M outlet as well. Oh ya... H&M has really good clothes. lol
11. 徐家汇
How to get there:
Train to 徐家汇 train station.
What's there there:
Another city center. Has a simlim like area. Also has Metro City (a singapore style and owned shopping center). Has 鸭王 which has really good 北京烤鸭. A bit far from where i stayed but it is a good place to shop
12. 南京西路 (小吃街)
How to get there:
Train to 南京西路 train station. It's a short walk there but i can't remember exactly how to walk there.
What's there there:
lots and lots and lots of food there. also has 小羊生煎, really a must try. Along the road there is a lot of food to try. at the end of the road, further, there should be a small brown building facing diagonally out to the road, there is a jap buffet there for 138RMB with free flow ala crate (sushi, sashimi, teppanyaki, tempura, bento, sake, beer, choya... everything) a bit of a hard find as it is in the basement but it is worth it. there are other jap buffets at 南京东路步行街 & 张江高科 train station but ya... this is the one i tried
well.. all the best!
